....by the sorting hat in Harry Potter, which houses do you think they'd be in?
I want to see what other people say before I post what I think. ;D
I'll go ahead and say that I am NOT a fan of HP; I watched one movie, but J.K. Rowling's attitude toward reptiles, and snakes especially, disgusts me to no end and I really can't get past that. I'm sure that in her view(and she created the "Harry Potter Universe", which includes the sorting hat, after all), Randall would fit firmly in House Slytherin, and she'd whole-heartedly agree that he's evil by default simply because he's scaly, just as Pixar apparently does. And of course, dear perfect and wonderful Mike and Sulley would belong to noble House of Gryffindore or however it's spelled.

Well if you just saw one movie it doesn't really give the whole picture.
I actually recently had a discussion about this with someone else on another forum and this is what I said to him about the snakes in the series:
"I don't like that snakes died in the series either. And I've tried to tell people who think Nagini is evil that if she came off that way to them it was because she had part of Voldemort's soul put into her(and remember Harry also accidentally ended up with part of Voldemort's soul in him and people can say it didn't make him evil but it certainly affected his mind at times in a negative way I would say and a snake would probably have less control over that) not to mention she was Voldemort's pet so of course she listened to him because he fed her and looked after her so he was 'good' in her eyes.
So I wouldn't really say the story promoted Nagini as evil....since if people look into it enough they should see that she really wasn't.
I do wish Harry would have tried talking to her though in parseltongue or talking to the Basilisk in the 2nd book in parseltongue. :/ Might have helped them.
I do think to a great degree Voldemort had control over those snakes in the film, which is why the events were the way they were. I mean when it says the Basilisk worked for the heir of Salazar Slytherin it is really just because parseltongue is very rare and he was one of the very few people who can speak it....the snake wouldn't be able to understand pretty much anyone else so of course it's going to listen to him and doesn't know the difference between good and evil and will therefore listen to whoever can talk to it and treats it well. Of course there are a lot of people who won't see as deeply into that and will view the snakes badly. -_-
I do agree though that I wish JK Rowling had at least countered all of it with maybe having another snake in the films who was more obviously positive to the audience."
Also JK Rowling, by the end of the series, tried to show that people sorted into Slytherin are not all bad....infact the majority of them are not.
I posted about that somewhere recently also and I wrote this:
"Yeah exactly being in Slytherin doesn't mean someone is bad.
Infact to be honest part of the reason the whole "Slytherins are evil" thing was emphasized more in the books than the way the house really is is because the books were pretty much seen from Harry's viewpoint. Slytherin and Gryffindor are the two houses that have the most rivalry between them(this actually also works for Sulley being a Gryffindor and Randall being a Slytherin) and so people in those houses believe a lot of stereotypes about each other. Harry's first encounter with a Slytherin was not a positive one and other people that had been in Gryffindor(like Hagrid) would say negative things to Harry about Slytherin and just build more in his head that they are bad people. Part of the purpose of Snape's character I think was to eventually awaken Harry from that stereotype. I don't think Harry had the same viewpoint of Slytherin after the whole Snape thing at the end of the series, we see this when he tells his son not to worry if he gets sorted into Slytherin. It shows that Harry no longer sees it as something bad. It's completely different from the beginning of the series when he thought Slytherin was so bad that he literally said "Not Slytherin. Not Slytherin." when the sorting hat was on his head.
In a way Harry Potter helped teach us not to have bias and not to stereotype. A lot of people think that the series was very negative when it came to Slytherin....which yes it was unless you look deeper and see that it was due to it being from Harry's viewpoint and that it all changed at the end when Harry became enlightened about Slytherin because of Snape's actions.
Anyway, Draco was not really a bad person either. When it came down to it he really wasn't and I think a lot of the negative stuff had to do with how he was raised and I feel like at the end of the series, Draco is going in the other direction(the positive/good direction).
A lot of people also make the assumption that all the Death Eaters were people who were formerly in Slytherin. I highly doubt that they were all Slytherins. Overall they're also a small number of people compared to the amount of students that would have graduated from Slytherin house at Hogwarts.
I also don't think Umbridge, who was seriously the most annoying bad guy in the entire series, was from Slytherin. We don't know which house she was from but she comes off differently than the villains from Slytherin. I honestly think she's a Hufflepuff gone bad even though I hate associating her with my house. -_- There are just a lot of things about her that seem Hufflepuff-like....just in more the negative side of it....it is rare for Hufflepuffs though. It did say on the official site that the least amount of dark wizards came out of Hufflepuff. That still means there are some though and I feel like Umbridge might be one of them."
So anyway, it's really not as bad as it all seems and there are some valuable lessons in the series although I still agree that certainly the snakes could have been shown in a better light.
JK Rowling was actually born in the year of the Snake(and then her other sign is Leo, the lion).

Also I'll mention that Slytherin is not the most disliked house in the Harry Potter universe.....Hufflepuff is. -_- Hufflepuff house gets made fun of so much by people that it's insane and hardly anyone wants to be sorted there.
I mean look at this video for example:
I mean to an extent some of the Hufflepuff bashing like this is just meant to be a joke....but since it happens so often I tend to feel more like most people believe it.
I actually dressed as a Hufflepuff student on Halloween after being sorted there on the official Pottermore site and I went to a mall that day and someone came up to me and actually said this "I got sorted into Hufflepuff on Pottermore but once the site opens to new accounts being made I'm going to make a new account and try to get Gryffindor."
I mean talk about smacking down my house. -_- Geez. It was just rather rude since she was pretty much saying to me "Yeah I don't want to be in your house, you guys suck."
People make fun of the fact that on Pottermore Hufflepuff house has the least amount of points(there is a section called the Great Hall which shows the rankings for the house cup....and yes Hufflepuff has the least amount of points). Underneath each house the top 20 scorers are listed for each house.
Anyway fact is that we're not last because we suck. We're last because NO ONE WANTS TO BE IN HUFFLEPUFF. I mean honestly we probably have a way higher percentage of abandoned accounts in Hufflepuff because it's the house the least amount of people want to be in so there are less of us actively earning house points in Hufflepuff. It is not because we SUCK. I am getting so tired of it honestly. I worked my ass off earning nearly 20,000 points for Hufflepuff. I'm in the top 50 Hufflepuffs(even though only the top 20 are listed I'm positive that I'm in the top 50) out of almost like 200,000 people who were sorted there. Part of my motivation to earn those points was because I felt I had more to prove by being sorted there because of what other people believe about Hufflepuff....I didn't want people to view my account and see very few points and think "Yeah another lame Hufflepuff." due to that stupid stereotype....a little of that is my Slytherin side coming out though there....it's my secondary house without a doubt since I do have ambition and pride about certain things....I don't need to win but I do hate to be last....it's just secondary to my Hufflepuff characteristics. I started getting a lot of friend requests on Pottermore as I gained a lot of points(the top scorer in my house has nearly 170,000 points though or so...I don't have the time to spend all day on the site and I would go crazy if I did but I put in the effort when I can - very few people have quite that many points although the two people with the highest points out of everyone on the site are both Gryffindors. Slytherin overall though on the site actually has the most points and is winning, even though the 2 top scorers on the site are both Gryffindors...Slytherin as a group is beating them by a large margin). I know some people just don't have time to earn the points by making potions and dueling the other houses or they simply come for the new info...and that's fine....there are people in all houses who just come for the new info and don't care about earning any house points....but I am totally convinced that a large part of why we're in last place is because there's a higher percentage of abandoned accounts in Hufflepuff because a lot of people hated being sorted there. Sadly because of that my house will probably always be in last place overall despite myself and a few other Hufflepuffs who rack up as many points as we can when we have the time.
People think Hufflepuff is like the last place house, the house for people who don't have talent, etc. Really though it's about people who are loyal, honest, hard working, and believing in fair play and it does NOT mean that we don't have any talent. Cedric was a very talented Hufflepuff. He was also the kind of person who would not have treated a Slytherin badly. I bet Hufflepuffs in general are more likely to not see Slytherins as evil. That is how Hufflepuffs come off, as being the least likely to develop notions like that about everyone in a certain house. I know that that's what I'm like and that is where I got sorted by JK Rowling's official sorting test.
Anyway I agree that Randall would be in Slytherin and it would certainly NOT be due to anything evil related at all but simply because he is ambitious. He likes to be at the top, win....he's a go-getter. Being ambitious doesn't equal evil.
JK Rowling also tried to break the conception of Slytherins being evil even further by what she wrote about Slytherin house on Pottermore....the welcome message people get when they are sorted there.
This shows the message that's on Pottermore for Slytherins:
www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=157093861038007JK Rowling really doesn't intend for people to think of Slytherins as evil. The books/movies were the way they were because the books were seen from Harry's viewpoint, and his opinion of Slytherin did change by the end of the series.
Sorry that my post is long as hell. I tend to do that sometimes.
