That's the thing about this board...just when you think a thread is dead, BOOM, it rises from it's grave once more!

Poor Randall! How dare they encourage children to not notice the morbidity behind that image!

Ever noticed how in a lot of Disney films, the 'villain'(I don't always think all these characters are that evil) does some kind of 'fall' at the end?
I wonder why that is....do they somehow think that's less violent?

sorry for bringing back an old topic but considering the content i felt compelled to say something lol.
at university i am studying early childhood studies and part of our under grad course is too look at media aimed at children and analyse the immediate and the 'subliminal' effect it would have on the child in question.
Although as stated this is a simple colouring page it is my belief that making excuses like 'its a simple colouring page why care?' is what is leading to alot of violence today in young children. They see things like this and because of thier young age do not fully understand that this is not an acceptable way to behave, yes they realize its a cartoon but as children the line between fiction and fact is blurred. this has been proven several times by many psychologists.
It is allowing things like this to slip that results in lack of compassion in children and as a consequence the adults of the future. i strongly believe that it is this lack of compassion and teaching of feelings and compassion towards others within childhood that leads to alot of the abuse you see and hear about nowadays especially concerning animals.
Now i am by no means one to take a fictional character as real life. i understand that monsters inc isnt real and randall is a fictional character created by a person for people. i however do not agree with desensitizing our children and our future society to cruelty to others of any kind regardless of who they are or what they have done.
sorry for the massive post its just i feel pretty passionatley about these topics lol i will also apolagise for any spelling mistakes and such i get so into writing i get lost in my own thoughts lol

Whether it's an animated or live-action character, seeing so many "deaths" and injuries does seem to have that effect on children to the point where they not only no longer care, they actually find it funny. Then there is that mind-set so prevalent today among young people that if someone does you wrong, it not only is acceptable to get payback for it, but you're OBLIGATED to seek revenge. I see this attitude over and over again whenever I bring up the wrongness of what Mike and Sulley did to Randall. Someone will inevitably respond with something like, "well, he tried to hurt them, so they HAD to do SOMETHING to get even!" pitbulllady

There were kids who would do those things when I was young too....killing bugs and stuff. I never did that much. I'd always move caterpillars and worms off the sidewalk. When other kids killed them, I would cry. One of my male cousins who's about my age actually took a frog from me once and killed it. This was when we were kids. It's a memory that still haunts me. I mean, I was so upset by him killing it that I even returned to look at it's body again later and I just looked at the little frog laying there and I felt so upset.
