Ok, A winter of our Discontent is not really A fan fiction, but it's a GREAT story ;D. Okay, I'm on chapter five right now. It has ALOT of swearing but i ignore that most of the time. The back of the book says: Eathan Hawley, a descendant of pround New England sea captains, works as a clerk in the grocery store owned by an Itaian immigrant. His wife is restless; his teenaged children are troubled and discontent, hungry for the tantalizing material comforts he cannot provide. Then one day, in a moment of mortal crisis, Ethan decides to take a holiday from his own scrupulous standards. It's by John Stenbeck. I was thinking Pitbulllady or Sgtyapap might have read it. DON'T RUIN IT FOR ME!!

Don't worry; I haven't read it. In all honesty, the only two by Steinbeck I've read were The Red Pony, and Of Mice and Men, both of which are depressing stories I was forced to read in school. Still, they're probably not as bad as Tim O'Brien's overly-obscene The Things They Carried. It's a story about the Vietnam War, but he even proudly uses the f-bomb in narration, instead of just dialogue.

Of Mice and Men? I tried reading it, but I can't get past the part about some place in a camp with a table under a lamp :/
