I guess what I mean by old school could basically be any older film whether it came out when you were young or even before you were born...but I guess for me, what I see as an old school film is basically any film that came out before I was born...I've seen my fair share of some old school films including films that my parents saw when originally in theaters.
Well, I guess one old school film to add to the few I've seen is The Terminator. Now, normally I'm not into sci-fi sort of stuff especially if it's a film that I can't get just by only watching it once (this is part of the reason why I don't watch star wars, I just don't get it!) but due to our tivo recording what it thought to be a PKMN movie (or according to Directv guide, it was suppossed to) we ended up with the Terminator instead...my two younger brothers (19 and 12) watched it and I finally had my chance to watch it today, despite being an eighties film and of course the lack of movie magic back then, it was actually a pretty good film. The story was able to explain what was going on pretty well and it helps when your mother is around her forties to fifties and can explain all the kinds of things that happend back then during that year that the movie took place in. The thing that surprised me and my nineteen year old brother was this...we had NO IDEA that the terminator was actually the villian. Seriously, we always thought that Arnold's character was the good guy of the film since it was called The Terminator...I know, weird thing to think but then again, I had never known for the longest time that Beetlejuice was the villian either until I was older...go figure.

Haven't seen Terminator 1, but I'm interested what with Terminator 2. Indeed, that's one of the misconceptions about Arnold's character for those who haven't seen the first, and yet he even tells John Connor himself that he was just reprogrammed in the second movie! Though I still wouldn't really call the normal Terminators evil; they're just doing what they're programmed to do, Arnold's character adding in the second that they don't even have that many capabilities, such as learning.
In my personal opinion, many of the effects in the second are also quite convincing to me, and some, such as the T-1000 morphing effects, could even stand decently against modern CGI!
Anyway, back onto old films in general: most of the last good movies, to me, were released when I was young, so this is the perfect thread for me to participate in. There are so many classics in the past, some of which don't even get that much recognition despite being so perfect. For instance, anyone else seen the movie based on the Parker Brother's board game "Clue" (the movie is given the same title)? Aside from being an all-star cast (the two most notable actors being Tim Curry as a butler and Madeline Kahn as Mrs. White), it is a superb film, throwing in MANY great jokes as well as the suspense that came to represent the game, even keeping in mind the two secret passages in the board game! Best part for all movie viewers: it has MULTIPLE ENDINGS, and on the DVD version, you can play a version of the movie that picks one of them by random!! ;D Thus, you won't know for certain who did it if you watch it!

You haven't seen the first one, I thought you did since you had said on here once that you had seen the second one? So, he changes sides in the second one, man, I need to try and rent it sometime then but the first one is pretty good compared to some other films that came out during the eighties actually. I know one film that is okay, not quite great, was Child's Play. My brother and I watched that after he had first turned eighteen and personally, it didn't look that great although I did have trouble sleeping that night though. Lol, this is coming from a girl who collects living dead dolls. Personally, I really don't like Chucky, I like Tiffany and his son Glen but not him... Clue? I think I saw that once...actually, yeah I did! We were on a band trip once and after watching Finding Nemo who knows how many times. (despite the fact that the girl who brought it was a big Nemo fan, seriously, you can only watch a 3-D animated film about fish for so long until you get sick of it or get hungry for seafood) It actually wasn't too bad, interesting even though when it comes to doing movies based upon games, comics, and stuff, sometimes I am a little skeptical. You always wonder if they will stick true to what it's about and stuff but it was pretty good...and I have never played Clue actually! That multiple ending thing was really out there because after it was over, some of the other people in the band were asking, "So who did it again?" That film was pretty good. Talking about older films reminds me of this one time that my mother and I were talking about old school music, I remember telling her once that despite the fact that eighties music was old, there were some songs that I liked...she for whatever reason then reminded me that since I was born in '87 that technically I was born during the eighties and by calling the music old then I was calling myself old needless to say, I then corrected myself by then stating that eighties music wasn't old then, lol. Another film I rememberd seeing once is this one I think it's called "Batteries aren't Included", it's about this old couple who find these little robot like aliens and try to help take care of them and their babies...I like it cause I think it's cute...you said once that you kind of like sci-fi, I don't know if it's out on DVD or still rentable but if you ever get a chance Sgt, I would suggest you try checking it out actually.

I have to admit, it's been a long while since I've watched Terminator. I've seen the first two movies, but I was around 8 or 9 at the time. I remember the general plot, but the whole movie is more of a vague memory. Although, I have been on the ride (not really a ride so much as a show) at Universal ;D
Wow, never new they made a clue movie. I haven't heard of the other one either. Have to check them out.
I enjoy a lot of older movies. Some good ol' comedies, like The Producers and Young Frankenstein. Book based classics like A Clockwork Orange and One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest. And a random one here and there that I watched with my mom on TCM and actually liked. There's this movie called A Patch Of Blue that's really enjoyable. It's about a blind girl with an abusive mother. She falls in love with a man who meets her in the park while she's making necklaces. The man so happens to be black, and well, you know how that goes in older movies. It's a pretty good watch if you can find it.
Not all THAT old, but it seems that not many people have seen or heard of it: Jacob's Ladder. I looked it up because it's a movie that inspired the Silent Hill series. It stars Tim Robbins and it's just a wonderful movie if you can find it.

I've also heard of Jacob's ladder. One of the LDD's from series 13 was named Jacob who happend to have a ladder and got bad luck from walking underneath it, according to a fansite about the dolls, that movie is what led to the inspiration for that particular doll.

That's really cool! I think you'll like the movie. It's just a matter of finding it. My boyfriend had to order it online. But you can watch it on YouTube last time I checked.

I finally just saw Terminator 1 as well. For those who have seen the other Terminator movies, this one is probably the scariest. Lots of dark places, and lots of bloody massacres by the T-800 (aka Arnold Schwarzenegger). He even kills Sarah's roommates and pet iguana (the last one via reference, fortunately), none of whom had anything to do with Sarah's future. A little trivia in regards to that movie: until Arnold and James Cameron (the director) started talking significantly, Arnold was originally going to play the role of Kyle Reese, the father of John Connor who PROTECTS Sarah. Even more ironic, the role of the Terminator, in its very first draft, was going to be played by O.J. Simpson, the movie being released a decade before he killed in real life.

Scary? Really? *shrugs* I didn't see it as scary really, just a movie packed with tons of action sequences although that's some interesting info on Arnold there.

Well, when I say scary, I happen to be a person who is easily scared. And yet, somehow, I don't think I'm going to get nightmares out of this. In fact, I was often giggling with excitement in some scenes rather than cringing in fear, though I did turn away in some segments for the sake of violence (i.e. the first time I saw the T-800 cutting out its eye while in repair mode).

I think the part that scared me when I as young was one at the end. I just hated how the android's skeleton looked. Things like that scared me easy when I was young, so I can understand. It's funny because it takes a lot to freak me out now. I've seen Terminator 1 and 2 on the TV lately. I'm hoping to catch one of them at the beginning soon.

Haven't updated this so I figured...why not. Watched this morning a favorite film of my mom's, The Crow. I liked it especially the outfit that he wears...really liked that even though he wears a trench coat half of the time. One of these days, I'm gonna try and find it on dvd or blu-ray since my copy is a vhs I bought here from our Goodwill store. It's sad of what happened to Brandon Lee though, he was a pretty good actor.

Saw snippets of Blazing Saddles tonight. The beans scene is SO worth it! ;D Ironically, Mistica, this was another film involving dead actors. Fortunately, Harvey Corman (aka HedLEy Lamaar) didn't die young.

Never heard of that movie or the actor...so how did he die?

Well, Blazing Saddles is a comedy, for one thing, specifically a Wild-west-style movie countering racism (yes, this was released in the 70s).
As for Korman, all I remember is that he passed away rather recently, last year I think.

Hmm, sounds like one of my dad's type of movies, I'll try looking up on Wikipedia about that actor though. Speaking of which, according to The Crow article on there, some director is either doing a sequel to it or remaking it...not sure if I would like that though. A sequel to te film wouldn't make sense since Eric Draven aka The Crow accomplished what he set out to do. Doing a remake would be hard to measure up considering that it was Lee's last film.
