Just thinking about Randall's abilities, and I came up with a pretty neat idea that would be SO cool if it worked- I was thinking that, since Randall can change colour, not only according to his surroundings, but to anything that he wants, is it a possibility that he can change some of his scales, say on his front, into words, if you see what I mean? That'd be so cool- Randall and Wazowski having a little disagreement, then Randall storming off with the words, "Buzz off, looser" on his back!

I actually saw an octopus on one of those "Animal Planet" shows blend in with a Coke can, and it had the "Coka Cola" logo on its body down-pact! It even sorta got the SHAPE of the Coke can, but then, octopi don't have bones, so they can do that sorta thing.
I guess Randall COULD print words across himself, IF he'd blended in with a background like that, but it seems that he has to either be against the background or have it stored in his subconcious memory to do so. I don't think he can just randomly generate a pattern or color.

I remember that one of the aspects of my Haven fic (remember that one?) involved something like that. I hadn't written the scene involving it yet, but Randall would have changed his scale pattern to show arrows, to indicate silently which way his companions were to go. They were escaping, you see, and the arrows would be easier to understand than handsignals.

We're not making fun; we're just contemplating the extent of his abilities.

If that's true, what about when he used them to play a joke on Wazowski in the first scene we see him?

That was a joke.....he just turned completly invisible, so NO ONE could see him. He doesn't like turning something else and someone else seeing him. Remember Sullivan bumping into him?

*is confused* Trivial matters = things that aren't serious/important. Jokes fall into that category.

We're not making fun, Sean, and I'm really sure Randall wouldn't ming us talking about something as 'trivial' as this. And Beboots, that arrow thing sounds like a great idea! Wow! That's so cool, I can just imagine it happening!
And the only reason Randall was annoyed when Sullivan bumped into him was because he was very stressed out at that point, and he didn't exactly feel like talking to Sullivan with everything that was going on at that moment, did he?
