They were in the beta version though, I think. Mike and Randall actually were working together in several script versions, and Sulley was just a janitor who happened to be friends with them both, who was trying to break into Scaring, but was too afraid of kids himself. The three of them were able to work together to stop a "threat" in the form of a human child, at the same time finding out that human children weren't toxic and learning how to work together and get along, helping Sulley overcome his fear of kids. Personally, I like that version better than the one that found its way onscreen. There actually is a fanfic on FF.net, buried way back there somewhere, which had Sulley and Randall switching assistants at Waternoose's insistence, and it is a very funny story! Mike is a bit off-character in that he's not afraid of Randall and stands up to him, especially when he finds out that one of his duties involves making coffee(big surprise there, huh?), but other than that, the characters are dead-on, especially Randall. I'll see if I can find it and post a link. pitbulllady pitbulllady ah yes, the one with visous, ugly, sickish yellow green, creepy, cartoon grasshopper looking, Swift. and colerless, non-animatiated Ned ;D that's what happends when you listen the adouo with all your might on a I-Can't-Find-the-bloody-speaker samsung ;D

I really don't see how anybody could like Mike. Guess what, I do, if you have a problem then deal with it!

Plus- it was just weird how happily he said "Oh hey it's Randall... OH." I'm guessing the guy just likes the sight of Randall unconcious in general? Whoa, I'm bumping a four year old conversation here, but this just reminded me that Mike DOES sound happy to see Randall materialize in this scene. What's that all about, anyway? I thought he didn't like him. Maybe he likes having a tsundere hatemance relationship (or acquaintanceship) with Randall or something, like, "Oh look, it's Randall! I can tease him and argue with him again, fun!"

Boo becomes a tool against Randall-- anyone else think the whole Scare record competition is really between Ran and Mike, with Scully and Fungus trying to keep out of it?-- but he also starts to warm up a bit to Boo... Really, I see the end as Mike starting to feel some proximity love for Boo. Sorta like how your friend loves their new dog to pieces, while you don't really care at first 'cause it's not yours but then you and the dog get to be pals and you don't mind (the dog) so much... That's the funny thing, for Randall Sulley really is the enemy and he's the one Randall wants to show up, but Sulley really doesn't care...it's Mike that cares, so Mike just gets in the way of what Randall sees as a competition between himself and Sulley. Mike makes it about himself because it's his dream to be the Greatest Scarer Ever. Randall only seems to have a problem with Mike because of Mike's association with Sulley, though he seems to still have lingering feelings of longing/bitterness for his old "friendship" with Mike and is willing to exchange snide remarks with him and pull pranks on him.

It's hard to figure out just what is going on in Mike's brain with regards to Randall. The two of them really do seem to enjoy "picking" on each other, and each one knows exactly which "buttons" to push to set the other off. Sulley on the other hand, seems a bit exasperated with both of them at times, looking at them the way a parent would look at two bickering kids. He doesn't get their interaction at all.

The two's relationship is, at the point we see in MI, kind of...bad. They know their buttons as you said PBL, and CrazyDiamond too I think, but there's a difference between them. When Randall pokes at Wazowski, Wazowski simply passes it off. Afterall HE (Sullivan actually) is on top of things, so such comments against him pretty much are flung against a shield that ain't going to break any time soon. For Randall, though, the jabs DO get to him. As we know, Wazowski's not good when it comes to other's feelings, so he doesn't know (or care) that this stuff affects Randall negatively. Also, same thought, it seems Wazowski is under the impression that Randall wouldn't hurt him, that he isn't a threat. Whether this is because Wazowski is on top of things (in his mind) or his foreknowledge about Randall when he was younger, who knows. This is mostly in the first Extractor scene where Wazowski is just SO calm about things. Sure, a part of it is because he THINKS he knows what's going on. But on the whole, he's not that worried. Now, when the extractor starts coming in, and when it activates, Wazowski starts really getting worried. As we know, Randall wouldn't make the machine to kill (and as PBL points out, the settings were low), but Wazowski may have doubted it, not knowing what the machine is. So maybe it was at that point he thought of Randall as a threat more than somebody to increase his personal ego through taunts and belittling.
