With only one eye, the guy has no depth perception.
...
So how can he drive?! Or be allowed to drive?! It surely is not safe for him or others on the road or him to be doing so.
Just some random thought I had when I decided to rewatch the movie today and also watched 'Mike's new car'.
Of course, it's probably just something the writers didn't think about (like all the doors being 'open' when they made Boo laugh- so any kid/human could accidently go in the monster world... still. Just wondering. Any random theories surrounding this?

Actually, I know of quite a few people who have lost one eye, or the use of one eye, and who still drive. From my understanding, the brain sort of "re-wires" itself to compensate for the lack of stereoscopic vision, although it takes time. In Mike's case, though, he's always had only one centrally-located eye(well, ALMOST always-according to his "stats" in one of the books, Mike was actually born with TWO eyes, which merged into one...and everyone thinks that RANDALL is "creepy" ), so he has not had to adapt to the loss of one. That one eye, located where it is and as large as it is, probably has two optic nerves, leading in opposite directions, so even though he only has one pupil, one lens, one retina, etc., his brain(or what passes for a brain in his case)probably processes information as though it was coming from two different eyes simultaneously. Given the paucity of gray matter to work with, this explains why Mike tends to just "freeze" with that blank expression on his face(like he does when he sees Sulley crawling around on the men's room floor)whenever he sees something that actually triggers a thought process: that brain can't deal with what his eye is seeing, and what his mouth tries to say or his limbs try to do, at the same time! What I thought this thread was about though, was in reference to his contact lens. Mike wanted to DRIVE to work, yet his contact-which I assume he needed to SEE with-was kept in his locker at work! That does not say much for Sulley's IQ, that he'd actually ride in the car with someone was that visually-impaired at the wheel, does it? pitbulllady

Yeah I have to admit that's idiotic on Wazowski's side, not that I'm surprised. I mean he really doesn't need contacts for how he works 0_0 Other than punching in numbers and such, he probably.... *blinks* Actually...IS it contacts? Maybe it's a sorta "goggle". I mean with an eye like THAT, getting scream in the face from a busted canister would blind him. So maybe it's an issued protector for his eye (which sorta explains him spraying himself in the eye with disenfectant, forgetting he didn't have the "goggle" on at the time).

He's a monster-- our anatomy is different. Maybe he has super-developed eyes, er-- eye?

You can drive with one eye. Also his eye is huge so it can probably see more than one smaller eye.
