Ahem, unlike some of you peeps, I didn’t get a chance to see Ran in the movie-montage trailers, and as such I can‘t well comment on that. Unfortunately, when he did make a first appearance on-screen, I automatically filed him away as a textbook badguy. Not to say I didn’t like him by any means, I found his "evilness" quite interesting and thought he was the cat’s pajamas (and still do, har har) at thine young age of seven. Hehe, I don’t think I shut up about how cool his ‘blending’ was for at least a week after watching… Anyway, I think I grew to like him (read: fangirl) more as a character later on, though back then I pretty much still saw him as a strictly villainous, puppy-kicking type of character. T’was only rather recently after buying the dvd that I’ve really come to sympathize and see him as an overworked guy that was dealt a bad hand in life. =) (I am also very ashamed to say that the first time I saw the film, when Randall was thrown into the backwoods trailer at the end… I actually cheered. DARK TIMES THOSE WERE I TELL YOU.) (Also: It is fun to bring back these dead topics, no?)

Yes, it IS fun to bring up abandonned topics. And I sort of disliked Randall at first, too. (As I remember)

My first impression with Randall?ok,let me tell.... I saw him for the first time in my old Monsters,Inc.'s album...but When I saw him at the cinema...I said:"Oh,my!!This character is so cute!*fall in love with him*" well,he wasn't with Steve Buscemi's voice(In Italy Randall is dubbed by Daniele Formica),but he was so sweetie, after all... I cryed alot at the end of the movie....poor Randall....

As crazy as it sounds, the first time I saw the movie, I actually enjoyed the movie completely. Upon the second time, however, I realized the "coincidence" of Randall both being what I thought was evil, and him being reptilian. Upon this I hated the movie for a long time for stereotypical reasons. It wasn't until a few years ago that I found a previous version of this board, and when I did, a hope started forming in my mind, that perhaps Randall wasn't evil, reinforced by the very logical observations made by many of you. I really appreciate the fact that there are others who also like the character, and who were optimistic enough to notice these details, unlike me initially.

Well, I don't think I noticed those things initially either. I think I was eleven when I first saw the movie, and I just liked Randall without really knowing why (aside from always having been an avid fan of reptillian animals). It was only a few years later that I came across all of the theories and reasonings that people have shown on here.

Back in 2001, I was just around Boo's age, so I couldn't remember anything D: I somehow found this board, and then I suddenly remembered the movie and stuff. I was excited because I knew that Disney was going to replay MI, so I watched just a few months back. Oh gosh I was expecting his voice to be.. a bit lower. It's an octave higher that what I expected, but its still very cute.
My first impression, hmm. It's all hazy, but I was just a kid and I thought that he was "evil" and stuff, mostly because, even back then, I was already afraid of lizards.
When I saw the movie again though, as a teen, well I could see who he really was and stuff.

I first saw MI at the cinema. I was 8 years old then and actually at first I disliked Randall. Didn't even feel sorry for him by the end of the movie. Everything changed when I got a videotape with the film.Maybe I became more mature I thought:"Why do people hate him? It's just not fair to claim he's the only one to be despised"

My first impression of him was that he was evil and I disliked him. But when I starting writing Fanfics about him last month, I started to soften about him. Then I found this site as suggested by my friend TheOnePistol and favorited Randall art to my Devianart account, so now Randall is one my top faves, along with Judge Claude Frollo from The Hunchback (no matter how evil he is) and Jumba Jookiba from Lilo and Stitch (wasn't evil at the end, but is still extremely intelligent.)

Hey! When I first saw Randall in the trailers and Maccaz add I instantly fell head over heals! No one could change my mind!! O.O But when I saw the movie I was actually really shocked at Randall's voice... He sounded nothing like I expected... Don't know why I'm saying this... wondering if anyone felt the same??? O.o ... Anyone? His voice is hot as hell and so is the way he looks. I always thought he was sexy, although I didn't admit it so easily at first. LOL. I don't normally go for characters that don't look human in any way what so ever. I knew Steve before I saw MI, and I loved his voice and acting, but when he did Randall, I barely recognised him, though I thought the voice he did suited perfectly. Really? I can tell it's him.

My first impression of Randall Boggs was that he was a very cute little lizard monster, and that I liked him. In fact, seeing his picture for the first time in the 'Disney Adventures' Magazine issue in 2001 that promoted the movie's release is what let me know, once and for all, that 'Monsters, Inc.' was going to be very fun and adventurous.
I was surprised when I saw the movie that he was playing the role of a villain, but it didn't change that first impression I had of him, nor the smile I got when I first saw his picture:
I was absolutely THRILLED when I learned that Randall was going to appear in 'Monsters University'!
